“WINNER 2010“ TIME: 49:47 |
Jack Braconnier (Philadelphia, PA)
WINNER 2010 TUCKAHOE TRIATHLON Next Race: 2011 Tuckahoe Triathlon
Last year was my first year taking part in the Tuckahoe Triathlon. I had learned of the race from a friend who competed the year before. He spoke about how great the race was and how much fun he had during it. That motivated me to sign up and take part in my first CityTri event. I was blown away with how organized and on point everyone involved in the race was. The course was well marked and fantastically described in the pre-race meeting. This can be sometimes difficult to find in local races, but CityTri was incredibly professional in ensuring the event ran very smoothly. Last year I was fortunate enough to put together a great performance and win the Tuckahoe Triathlon. Coming from a running background, I generally fall behind the leaders on the swim and work may way to the front as the race unfolds. At Tuchahoe last year I found a great line to the buoys during the swim and was able to come out of the water in a top 10 position. I quickly transitioned on to the bike the went to work moving up through the field. After about 3 miles on the bike I noticed that I could see the lead motorcycle up the road with the race leader. With the race leader in sight I grabbed another gear and pushed my way up to front. I hit the turnaround just as I had caught the leader and surged to go by him to take the lead myself. Getting to the front of a race is such an exciting feeling and this excitement enabled me to push the second half of the bike opening my lead as I approached the run. I came into T2 excited to head out on my favorite leg of triathlon, hoping to build my lead on the run. The run flew by with the help of cheering fans and wonderful volunteers. Before I knew it I had hit the run turnaround, grabbed some water from the aid station and was approaching the finish line. With the line in sight I opened my stride and leaned into the finishing chute. It was a great feeling to be able to win at such a fun filled event. After each finish I am always very thankful for the support I receive from family, friends, and Cadence Cycling and Multisport. Cadence has sponsored me for the past 3 seasons as I made the transition from amateur to racing profession. I attribute much of my success to the training and coaching I have received with them. I currently coach for Cadence and I am president of Cadence’s Triathlon Club. It is wonderful to train with other Cadence athletes and help each other work toward achieving our goals across all levels of racing. |

“THIRD MALE OVERALL“ TIME: 52:07 |
JASON GERHARDT (New York, N.Y.)
2010 TUCKAHOE TRIATHLON THIRD MALE OVERALL FINISHER Next race: 2011 TUCKAHOE TRIATHLON – August 14. Beesley’s Point, N.J. On training: “My background is a personal trainer and USAT coach, so I built myself a great training program for 2010 focusing on both endurance training and strength training. Plus I adhered to a vegan diet. I continue to consistently workout and keep a great diet. My girlfriend is a holistic nutrition counselor so it makes it easier to stick with a plant based whole foods diet. I have seen such a big difference in my performance. The course was a great flat and fast course with a warm temperature swim.” |
